OUR ROOTS
The first meeting of this congregation occurred in the fall of 1940 with sixteen Christians. Our name then was North-side. By 1948, the group had expanded to 165 members. In the intervening years, North-side provided assistance in building several new congregations. Then on New Year’s Eve 1982, we moved to a new building on the west side. We decided to start with a new name as well, Riverside; but the love of this Christian family has always remained the same.
Our Hope
We want, more than anything, to please our Lord. To accomplish this, we strive to study His word, provide a caring fellowship for believers, and reach out with the life-giving message of the Bible. We are enthusiastic about planting the same seed spoken about in Luke 8:11. It’s this seed [The Word of God] that Jesus also planted. Our hope is to be the church that Jesus intended. Understanding that a church which functions as a hospital for sinners seems to be more effective than a church that strives to be a showplace for the sanctified. We at all times want to humbly seek to know Jesus and share Him with those in the church and those outside.
“For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say ‘No’ to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope – the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.” Titus 2:11-14
